An old couch is the single most-Googled junk-removal item in Sarasota and Bradenton — and for good reason. Couches are too heavy to lift alone, too big for most trash cans, and Manatee and Sarasota counties won't pick them up curbside without an appointment. Here's what couch removal actually costs locally, and your options for getting rid of one this week.
Couch removal cost in Sarasota & Bradenton
At Gulf Coast Junk Solutions, a single couch pickup is $129 flat — that's our single-item rate, and it covers everything: two-person lift, removal from anywhere inside the home, hauling, and disposal or donation.
If you have two couches (say, a sectional plus a loveseat), it usually lands at the 1/4-truck rate of $199 — cheaper per item than two single pickups.
| Situation | Cost |
|---|---|
| One couch, curbside | $129 |
| One couch, second floor or tight stairs | $129 (no upcharge) |
| Two couches or a large sectional | $199 |
| Couch + a few extra items | $199–$349 |
Why couches cost what they do
Three things drive couch removal pricing locally:
- They're two-person work. A solo hauler physically can't get most couches out safely.
- They're a landfill-fee item. Upholstered furniture can't be recycled in most cases — Lena Road and Central County landfills charge by the cubic yard, and one couch eats 25–30 cubic feet.
- They eat truck space. A single couch takes roughly 1/8 of our 10.67-yard trailer, which is why a single-item pickup is more cost-effective when bundled with other junk.
Cheaper alternatives (and when they actually work)
- Manatee County bulk pickup: free, but requires a scheduled appointment, the couch must be at the curb on the right day, and the wait is usually 2–4 weeks.
- Sarasota County bulk pickup: limited to a set number of items per year and same multi-week wait.
- Donating: Goodwill, Salvation Army, and Habitat ReStore will only take couches in clean, structurally sound condition. Stained, torn, or pet-damaged couches will be turned away — and you'll have hauled it twice.
- U-Haul + landfill self-haul: ~$30 truck rental + $50–$80 dump fee + your time and your back. Math rarely works out below $100 once you factor in everything.
For homeowners who need it gone this week without the back strain, the $129 flat rate is almost always the right move.
What we do with it
If your couch is donation-quality, it goes to a local Sarasota or Bradenton nonprofit on our next route. If it's at the end of its life, it goes to the right county landfill — Lena Road for Bradenton-area pickups, Central County for Sarasota.
Other large items, same flat rate
The $129 single-item rate also covers individual:
- Mattresses and box springs (see our Lakewood Ranch mattress disposal guide)
- Recliners and oversized chairs
- Standard washers, dryers, dishwashers
- TVs and large electronics
- Patio furniture sets (up to 6 pieces)
Want everything gone in one trip? Most full-living-room cleanouts (couch + chairs + TV + side tables + miscellaneous boxes) fit in our 1/2-truck rate at $349. See our junk removal service for what we'll take in a single visit.
